Why I Created The Pattern Lab

People often ask me why I created Pattern Lab.

The answer starts long before neuroscience, being an athlete, qualifications, the corporate world or travelling through Asia.

As a teenager, I lost my sister in a car collision.
Losing her turned my world upside down. I dealt with it the only way I knew how. I partied, surrounded myself with the wrong people and tried to outrun what I was feeling.

I was never someone who followed the crowd. I was always a leader, but underneath I was carrying grief and anxiety that I didn't understand.

Eventually, I was told I had an anxiety disorder and was prescribed medication.

I remember taking the prescription home and flushing the tablets down the toilet.

I knew I didn't just want to manage my symptoms. I wanted to understand why I felt the way I did.

My dad saw what was happening.

He had been an athlete himself, a karate black belt and marathon runner, and had been in the Navy. His discipline was legendary. He used to run 25 miles before dinner, just because he could.

He introduced me to training, and it became the beginning of a new chapter.

Discipline Changed My Direction

Training gave me structure, purpose and direction.
I became fascinated by nutrition, performance and the human body, eventually competing as an athlete while building a career in the corporate world.

Training became a huge part of my life. I learned about discipline, consistency, performance and what the human body could achieve when you committed yourself to something.

I competed as an athlete while simultaneously building my professional career, and both worlds taught me a great deal about pressure, performance and discipline.
It helped me enormously.

But even though I was training, it still wasn't enough to heal the anxiety and pain I was carrying inside.
There was a difference between being physically strong and understanding what was happening beneath the surface.

I had learned how to push myself.

I hadn't yet learned why I responded to certain situations in the way I did.

That realisation stayed with me.

While building my career, I also became increasingly fascinated by people.

When I Knew I Wanted Something More

I remember managers and colleagues saying to me:
"Bianca, stop absorbing the negativity."
It's something I've never forgotten.

I also remember looking around the office and thinking how exhausted so many people looked, myself included.

Everyone seemed busy, yet so much energy was being spent on stress, conflict and distraction instead of meaningful work.

It made me wonder how much potential was being lost simply because people didn't understand the patterns they were living in.
That question stayed with me.

But ultimately, I reached a point where I knew I didn't want to spend my life working for someone else.

I wanted to do something meaningful with my life.
So I left the corporate world.

I didn't have everything figured out. I simply knew that I wanted something different and that I wanted to build a life and career that meant something to me.

That decision became the beginning of a much deeper journey of learning.

Looking Beyond What I Already Knew

I immersed myself in neuroscience, psychology, human behaviour and nervous system regulation.

After Covid, I booked a one-way ticket and spent the next few years travelling extensively throughout Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India and Japan Malaysia and China.

Some of my greatest lessons didn't come from books or classrooms.

They came from conversations with local communities, time spent in villages, jungles, temples and ashrams, and from simply listening.

I learnt far more by sitting with local people than I ever could have as a tourist.

I wasn't looking for another quick fix or another set of motivational ideas.

I wanted to understand people, health and human experience from different perspectives.

And the more I travelled, the more I realised how much there was to learn outside the environments I had previously known.

Indonesia had the greatest impact on me, Sumatera, Jawa, Sulawesi, Lombok, Maluku and Bali.

The generosity of the Indonesian and Balinese people left a lasting impression on my life. They welcomed me with extraordinary kindness and shared perspectives on health, energy and our relationship with the environment that I had never encountered before.
For that, I will always be deeply grateful.

What Indonesia Taught Me

What struck me most was that many of the people I met didn't separate the brain, the body and energy into different conversations.
They saw them as one interconnected system.

Looking after your energy wasn't treated as something mystical. It was simply part of staying healthy, thinking clearly and living well.
That perspective made me look at my own studies differently.

I had been studying neuroscience, psychology, human behaviour and nervous system regulation, while my experiences throughout Asia were giving me a different perspective on how people understood health, energy and their relationship with the world around them.

When I combined those experiences with my studies in neuroscience and nervous system regulation, everything finally connected.

But understanding something intellectually wasn't enough.

I had to apply everything I was learning to my own life.

Over the following years, I did exactly that.
Nobody rescued me.
Nobody fixed me.
I found the tools, did the work and slowly rebuilt myself.

Why I Created The Pattern Lab

Do I still experience stress?

Of course.
Do I still have moments where anxiety creeps in?
Absolutely.

The difference is that it no longer controls my life.

I understand what's happening, I recognise the patterns and I have the tools to regulate my nervous system, protect my energy and bring myself back into balance.

That, to me, is what lasting change really looks like.
Not never experiencing stress.

Not becoming someone completely different.

But understanding yourself well enough to recognise your patterns and respond differently.

Everything I'd experienced, studied and learned eventually pointed to the same conclusion.

We don't just have a stress problem.

We have a pattern problem.

Pattern Lab was created to help people understand the hidden patterns shaping the way they think, feel and respond to life.

By bringing together neuroscience, nervous system regulation, behavioural psychology and Neuro-Energetics, my goal is to help people create lasting change, not temporary motivation.

Today, I'm continuing my education with a degree in neuroscience because I believe learning never stops.

I don't claim to have all the answers.

What I do know is this…

Understanding my own patterns changed my life.

My hope is that Pattern Lab helps you understand yours.
